It's been a while, but time to review another album from a Northwest PA band, this time from Erie. And it's another emo/pop punk band! This one is quite a bit different in sound, though. Also, from now on, Imma simplify the genres section a little bit to mainly just focus on the main genres.
Like a lot of great pop punk, this one is a little ramshackle, a little rough around the edges. In fact, it kinda reminds me of Discount's Half Fiction, especially in the pretty-sounding female vocals. But make no mistake, this is melodic as all hell. It has a bit of energetic melodic hardcore bite on "I've Got Straight Edge What've You Got?" and "Writers Block While Composing My Suicide Note." "Flapjack" is straight up Midwest emo, but more like Sunny Day Real Estate or Mineral rather than Kinsella-core noodlewank emo. And you even get a little (non-MWE) indie rock influence, just like Discount. But through and through, this is pop punk of the best kind. Maybe the Warpedcore crowd won't appreciate it, but I certainly do. It's just a damn shame that this EP is the only thing ever released by this band before sadly disappearing into the night.
