More RYM chart fun! This time, I was looking for something that combined shoegaze with drum and bass. In fact, I would love more electronic shoegaze in general. The ethereal reverb-heavy atmosphere of shoegaze with spacey swirling synths is a perfect hybrid that should honestly be way more common than it is. And this incredible effort from Malaysia is a perfect example of that yummy gazetronica fusion.
This album is simply phenomenal at creating an otherworldly atmosphere. The heavenly reverb-soaked shoegaze wall of sound meets the soothing ambience and hypnotic breakbeats of atmospheric dnb, and it’s a match made in heaven! It’s also a perfect album to listen to during the cold winter months, with an icy tone that brings to mind a picturesque snowy night, mysterious yet serene. Some of these tracks are calmer and more restrained, while some are noisier, more intense, even grungy sounding at times, but they all have a certain beauty that’s wonderful to listen to from start to finish. And on top of all of that are the lovely vocals courtesy of Hanakuma Chifuyu, a Synthesizer V virtual character (and for the record before anyone freaks out, despite marketing itself as artificial intelligence, Synthesizer V is NOT generative ai slop, but instead is simply vocaloid software akin to Hatsune Miku).
All of this comes together to give us, in my opinion, one of the very best shoegaze releases of the 21st century. Simply splendid!

Hello. Haven't seen you around the forums in a while but found this in my YouTube sidebar and thought you'd like it. There's a download link in the description. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fqx9A1ujVSM
ReplyDeleteI should also mention that the rest of the channel and its accompanying blog are worth checking out.
DeleteHowdy, Stalvern! Hope everything is going well with you and the rest of the VGC forumers!
DeleteThank you for the rec, this is definitely up my alley. Also, super cool channel, I’ll have to subscribe after managing my subscriptions. And I made sure to follow that blog as well. It seems it’s related to Canadian Wasteland, another cool obscure punk/hardcore/emo YouTube channel and blog.
Anyways, I really miss you and the rest of the VGC community. I kinda got frustrated with the place, which is why I left, but maybe I’ll come back in the near future.
